Witte Ballons

To be honest, can't really remember this bar to well. You folks from abroad have to understand, that for people from Amsterdam, Maastricht is a foreign country. This despite the fact it's only 250 kilometers from Amsterdam. Anyway I don't visit the place to often. So I have been in this place only once, and yes it was late.

From what I remember the music was loud. What I paid for the drinks I don't know, but the beer tasted fine. It was about four o'clock in the morning, so I guess this bar can be called sleazy in an alternative way. At the end of the night I only remember seeing Balloons.

Can anybody tell me what kind of place this is?
The morning was great by the way, thanks for asking!

Update: The Bar is unfortunately closed.

Berghain

Berghain is a Berlin nightclub, named after its location on the border between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain.

Philip Sherburne has described it as "quite possibly the current world capital of techno. The club is located in a former power plant in Friedrichshain, behind the Berlin Ostbahnhof railway station. Read more »

The Rainbow Bar and Poker Room

From multi-millionaires to transient scum, the Rainbow has it all. The occasional good band and the always crappy karioke. It's a fact. White people cannot dance. Ya gotta love it. Puke in the johnnie crapper, all sorts of smokin', all sorts of shots, and don't forget: Peanut shells on the floor please! Break the rules and Marge (the best bartender in the West) will 86 your ass. Barely got room for the bar sized pool tables. Drop the stick, that's 50 cents. Please deposit in the black tittie mug. Have fun and watch your back.

am to pm

amtopm

Berlins first club daily 24 houres open!

Placed underneath the S-bahn at Hackescher Markt, this looks like a real dive. It is said that the am to pm is a normal cafe during the day. It changes into a club as the pm progresses and the am begins to dawn. So the am to pm transforms itself two times a day. Read more »

The Green Parrot

gp_slide3_1.jpg

The Green Parrot is off the main drag in Key West, so you have to walk a few extra blocks down a narrow dark street to get there. It's worth the walk.
A huge wooden parrot over the cash register requires "No Snivelling."

No paint on the outside or fancy remodeling on the inside, probably since it opened in 1890.

The barmaid is tougher than the average biker, there is no glass in the windows, and the parachute hanging over the bar is probably vintage WW II.

The tourists hit Sloppy Joe's, Ricks, or Captain Tony's, but the locals hang at the Parrot.
A Key West Ale on a hot tropical night in August goes down smooth and the Blues band on the small stage is blasting away.

It doesn't get any better than this.

The Welcome Inn

Welcom Inn

My friend Phil and I are always on the lookout for sleazy bars - it's a hobby, even though we're not gay. On a visit to Dublin we visited a very special pub in a fairly central location. Dublin is a strange city...On leaving Connelly Station, right in the heart of the city we walked for two minutes and found ourselves in a barren housing estate with youths riding huge horses bareback around the blocks of flats. After such a long walk we felt we needed a drink, so popped into a pub. Read more »

Pipa Club

Pipa Club

To enter, one has to ring the doorbell and walk up to the first floor. It's not very sleazy, but it's open till late. Of course, the later you'll arrive, the more you feel at home. The clientele is a mixture of tourists and catalans, the drinks are relatively expensive, and there used to be a waitress with long legs, leather boots, a short skirt and a skimpy shirt, but I haven't seen her the last few times I was there.

But it's open untill quite late, or did I mention that already?

El Zorro Bar

El Zorro

In the city known for sleasy bars, El Zorro is famous for the ambiance, a pair of fairly burly gentlemen will greet you and poin the way to your table, the place is almost completely dark, after a second a girl will sit next to you and ask you to buy her a drink, if you do so, she will remover her top and let you fondle her,
Here you can get lucky for a few pesos.

Astoria Hotel

Astoria Hotel

The Astoria Hotel may be a 'highlight' in a strip of sleazy bars, shops, residential hotels, and street corners: East Hastings.

At a convenient distance of the Carnegie Library (which is not where you borrow books) and Pigeon Park (which is not where you walk your dog), the Astoria Hotel and similar outfits in the neighbourhood provide hangouts for many people without regular places or lives to live.
A reliable source said that behind the empty bottles and so in the liquor store, there is a full-blown boxing club (I'm not sure if they follow Rule #1, so perhaps it should not be in this description?)
Although during the few days of my stay I had no time to check these out, the daily bus trip though guaranteed a wealth of choice.
