The Board of Trade

Board of Trade Saloon

This place was established during the gold rush and in the 70's & 80's the bathrooms looked (& smelled) like they could have been the originals.

In the late 1970's the bars in Nome stayed open 24/7 and the BOT almost always had a few overly refreshed patrons sleeping at the tables in the front of the saloon.
The house band in those days (I think they were "The BOT Band") had the worst sound system, etc which was all moot because the only thing the patrons needed was the back beat for scootin' around on the floor. Read more »

The Drinking Fountain

The Drinking Fountain is in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. It's one of those old-school drinking saloons that are fast disappearing these days and are being replaced with glitzy steel-and-glass type places all across the country. The Drinking Fountain has the good fortune to be on the same block as two other very renowned JP bars, the famous Doyle's and the Midway Cafe. Read more »

The Espy

The Espy

A rich beer and smoke smell permeates the very fabric of this notorious dive. Drugged wildlife add to the charm, whilst the low light levels and ugly bar fittings enhance the incredible ambiance of this historic boozer cum music venue. The threadbare carpet with requisite gaffer tape and butts is just as expected, the beer is cold and the music is hot. And the beach is close if you need to sleep off your hangover. Even some of the local sleazebags avoid this place because it is just too sleazy! The beautiful building is of great historic and cultural significance.
The URL below is not their official website, but close.

The Space Room

Alas, the fine old days of elderly chain smokers drinking vodka mixed with milk are gone at The Space Room. However, while the crowd has changed to hipster\frat boy\pseudo alcoholic (which, in my opinion makes it even sleazier) the decor, ambiance and overall ooze have not changed. Read more »

San Francisco

sanfrancisco.jpg

If everything is closed and you're a little desperate you can go to San Francisco at the famous Zeedijk (red light district).
It's a bar/dancing, the beers are too small and too expensive, the "broodje bal" is good, the atmosphere is often not very friendly, especially if you bring your girlfriend.
They close late, though.

El Cangrejo

I have only been there a few times. It's open until late, and it depends on the night what's going on. It's a bit like San Francisco, Amsterdam, but way less sleazy. However, I once did see a travestite dance show there, and the clientele is definitely tourist free.

Five Star Bar

Five Star has been serving cheap beers on Main Street in Downtown LA for decades. Downtown’s recent “revitalization” has altered the bar’s working class demographic but regulars still nurse their $2 domestics while local bands play on the stage in the back.

The last time I was there the bartender wasn’t, so one of the patrons walked around the bar and served me a pitcher of Bud Light for $6. Read more »

The Handle Bar

Skanky bikers unite! I nominate The Handle Bar in Youngstown, Ohio as one sleazy bar!

This is the home of seventy five cent draft beer and washed up haggard barwenches who wear orange and black Harley Davidson inspired tank tops without the aid of a supportive undergarment!

This is one dimly lit bar, which is just as well as many of the patrons would scare the living bejeezus out of you if you encountered them in the harsh light of day. There is a nice selection of bras hanging from the ceiling as ladies are encouraged to show off their assets upon first visit! Read more »

De Doofpot

Since ages the closing times of bars in amsterdam are a complete disaster.
This is a problem for me as a part-time bartender because I like to sit down and have a nice drink in a bar after a long night of work.
Or tell my clientele where to go when I have to sweep the floor. So nightbars are a must. Read more »

Caboose Crossings Saloon

A smogasboard of delightfully friendly local townies where
the faces never change over time, other than to reflect the years of alcoholism inflicted by spending all ones free time on the same barstool. A definite "must-go-to" popular spot morning, afternoon or late-night in Lake County, IL. (open: ~7am-2am)

The Minds

De-Voorkant-Nacht.jpg

In the center of Amsterdam you'll find The Minds which is easily associated with the punk/squat scene.
The best thing about the Minds (apart from the athmosphere) is it's closing time, although it always depends on the owner's ("Dre") mood. Be sure to be in on time because after official closing time the blinds close and you won't make a chance.

They serve dutch beer named Budels which is best consumed from the bottle -not for the taste but it looks cooler and they serve draft in those small shitty glasses.

The Minds is famous for their live bands at Queens Day (30th april).
