Snake-n-Jakes Christmas Club Lounge

An old friend of mine lived across the street from this place and refused to go in.
So when I visited I dragged him in after a Widespread Panic show, LATE NIGHT.

Keep in mind, this place usually does not open until around midnight, and really gets hoppin' around 6-7am. S-n-J's is located in Uptown on Oak off of Carollton.

Most cab drivers don't even know where it is and it is primarily a local's joint. It's a tiny, ramshackle looking place with a very large south pacific man minding the door. Once you enter, it is a low ceiling and candle light only.

Drinks are cheap and poured stiff.

Try the Bloody Mary, one of the best in the city and they will pour it with top shelp for no charge if you ask. Great, mellow funk music playing, a few dingy couches to sit on, and one nasty unisex bathroom in the back.

Occasionally after big music events, you will find people outside handing out nitrous balloons and smoking pot inside is generally accepted if you get in well with the bartender
On occasion, if you are there at 8 or 9 in the moring, the owner will fire up the grill out on the sidewalk and serve burgers free of charge. Take my word for it, this place is a New Orleans MUST, but go around 3-4am to really start people watching. A real gem, so keep it quiet.
